Poll Question Stirs Debate on Meaning of 'Values'

Date: 06 November 2004

By Jim Rutenberg

Jim Rutenberg

Citing a major Election Day poll that found ''moral values'' ranked at the top of the list of issues that swayed the national electorate, some news organizations have portrayed matters like same-sex marriage and abortion as the sleeper factors of a campaign fought mostly over war, jobs, health care and terrorism. Hubbell, a maker of electrical products, said its chief financial officer, William T. Tolley, had been placed on paid administrative leave amid an investigation into a restatement of his former employer's financial results in 2000.
