A $1.37 billion (United States) reorganization plan for the Trizec Corporation was approved by a Canadian judge, who rejected a motion from junior creditors seeking more money. Judge Gregory Forsyth of the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench ruled that the restructuring plan of Trizec, a financially troubled real estate company, was fair to all parties involved. The junior creditors, owed more than $310 million in unsecured loans, wanted $23 million more than the $125 million allocated to them in the restructuring plan, so they voted against the plan on July 6. Under the plan, the senior creditors, who are owed about $1.2 billion, would receive 76 percent of the principal of their holdings in cash. Trizec, based in Calgary, holds interests in 85 office buildings and shopping centers in Canada and the United States. The company has been operating under court protection since March 19. The plan will take effect July 25, the company said.
