Shutdown at Ford

LEAD: The Ford Motor Company said it would idle its Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar assembly system at its Lorain, Ohio, assembly plant for one week because of a shortage of interior trim materials. The shutdown is effective today. The Thunderbird-Cougar assembly system employs 2,700 hourly employees on two shifts and builds about 5,600 units weekly, Ford said.
